Vestibular Evaluations

Examination: A history of loss of balance and/or dizziness is described by the patient. A physical evaluation is performed to rule in origin of problem including neural assessment, balance exam and specific activities including head and eye movements which provoke the complaint. These tests permit the therapist to determine if the source of the problem is considered to be the vestibular system or from other origins.

Treatment Interventions: Very specific progressive exercises are given to the patient to enable the vestibular system to function properly permitting head and body motions which do not cause nausea or vertigo. If the neck joints are affected, the neck treatment may include modalities, manual therapy and specific therapeutic exercises for those joints and muscles. A home program is given for the progressions with follow up in the clinic as needed.
