Examination: Postural alignment, muscle imbalance, ankle/ foot positions, strength and range of motion are assessed. If pain and/or inflammation are presenting symptoms, more special tests are conducted to the region of complaint to determine the provoking structure. If numbness or abnormal sensation is reported, a neurologic exam is included. Ergonomic assessment may be needed to determine if work postures both at the job site and at home are contributing factors
Treatment Interventions: Manual therapy including approaches such as stretching, joint manipulation, soft tissue mobilization and manual distraction are options based on findings from the exam conducted.
Modalities: If pain or inflammation is present, there are several modalities we can choose from to alleviate these conditions. Ultrasound, electrotherapy, laser, iontophoresis, mechanical traction, heat and ice are all options available in our clinic and determined by the physical exam.
Therapeutic Exercise: Stretching and guided strengthening using neuromuscular principles are chosen based on the presenting complaint and physical exam. Home exercise programs are written, updated and reviewed with patients after they are given.
