Examination: The patient is observed moving from chair to stand, sit to side and side to back and return. A walking and balance assessment is performed. Strength, range of motion and possibly a neurological assessment are included if indicated.
Treatment Interventions: Determinations are made regarding proper assistive devices needed for safety and improved symmetry while walking. Instructions in transfers to make the movements easier and less painful are given. Family members and care givers may be instructed in assistance with these activities.
Therapeutic Exercise: Stretching and guided strengthening using neuromuscular principles are chosen based on the presenting complaint and physical exam. Home exercise programs are written, updated and reviewed with patients after they are given.
