Non fatal occupational injuries occurred in 3.5 out of 100 workers in 2010 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This number is less than in previous years. Physical therapy interventions have been very successful in reducing on-site injuries. At Riverfront Physical Therapy, we perform work task assessment on site, assist in writing task related job descriptions and develop prevention strategies; screening; and work site accommodation programs for employers. We teach safety and stretching when needed. We have worked with several companies for over 20 years and continue to consult in on and off site programs for them. Bridge construction, light industrial fabrication, food service warehousing and delivery are job types we have become instrumental in aiding injury prevention. We do replacement screening based on the essential elements of the job, post injury care and rehabilitation as well as return to work screening to determine when the client is best capable of resuming former work responsibilities. Our methods have been successful in limiting the types of catastrophic injuries while allowing these companies to retain their key work staff. This is both cost effective and provides a safe environment for employees to function optimally.
